A Review of CSO’s Country Legends

I recently attended the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Country Legends concert at the Gaillard. What struck me from the very beginning was that every single musician was wearing JEANS! The symphony, wearing jeans!!! I’m so used to seeing them in tuxedos and dresses it was shocking at first but I loved it. It added to the country vibe of the night, which happens to be my favorite genre of music. I made sure to wear my cowboy boots for a similar effect. In addition to the symphony, there were two singers who performed throughout the night, Patrick Thomas and Rachel Potter, both from Nashville. Patrick was finalist on The Voice, and Rachel a finalist on the X-Factor! They were incredible singers and performers. They sang duets and solos mostly accompanied by the symphony, but twice accompanied by just Yuriy Bekker on the fiddle! Yuriy admitted to Rachel earlier in the night that he had only played fiddle twice before (he is Russian) but no one could tell. He rocked it in his blue jeans. They chose music from classics like Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, as well as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Carrie Underwood. Rachel had four outfit changes throughout the concert and looked flawless in each dress! For the encore, both singers came out and did a duet of America the Beautiful which gave me chills and got the whole performance hall up on their feet. The best part, though, was getting to meet both Patrick and Rachel after the show and getting autographs on their CDs! Yes, actual compact discs with music on them. Not iPhones. Rating: 10/10.
